Parks & Norge – Eggbox 011

ASIP’s very own Russian ambient mafia has put together the latest instalment for Eggbox. Featuring nothing but Russian music, this is a rather brilliant insight into the world of Father and Son – master and young prodigy, full of warm textures, analog sounds and wacky samples. Listen to Parks and Norge’s ASIP releases over on Bandcamp and give the full article below a read for a nice interview with them both.

Sebastian Mullaert (Minilogue) – Ambient mix for Mule

I’m not going to say too much on Sebastian right now as he has an isolatedmix coming soon… so here’s a nice taste of what to expect. It is however important to note he has album coming out soon on Mule! “I’m releasing a freestyle album that I recorded together with my friend Eitan Reiter in February 2014. The album is called “Reflections of nothingness” and will be released on Mule Musiq in the end of October. To honour the release of that album I made a mix with some ambient music, inspired by the autumn that is coming here in Sweden”.

I’m gutted to be missing Decibel this year, and for one massive reason – the Silent Season showcase. Friday will see the amazing SS crew take the stage, including ASC, Jamie McCue (Label owner) and our fav dub-techno-head Segue. More info on that special lineup here.

Textural Being – Transmission EP

Our local Portland dub-techno mastermind, Textural Being has released this lovely three-track EP on German label Tiefenrausch, also available on vinyl (dub-techno fans know how hard it is to find decent music of this type on wax). Whilst ‘Safe Places’ is his typical, floaty gorgeousness, ‘Transmission’ pics up the pace a little; perhaps appealing to the DJ’s out there and ‘Descend’ is a thoroughly deep, slow and submerged affair.

Stray Theories – We Never Left

Combining cinematic instrumentation with lush ambient soundscapes, Stray Theories hits drama smack bang on the head, and this release featuring remastered tracks of old and new is nothing short of exceptional as usual. I picked the image above whilst listening to his album – enough said. Beautiful.

Horizonatal Excursions – Legacy EP

It’s been a while since Roger Martinez has released something on his Horizontal Excursions guise (don’t forget his Places Series EP). This EP however, seems to be built more around song structure than any of his previous work; featuring arpeggiating synths, loops and intense climaxes, sprinkled with subtle samples, and all lovingly wrapped in those luscious soundscapes we love HE for. Roger has a track on the next ASIP vinyl/comp coming soon which will knock your socks off.

Applescal – Hyp 192 (Mix)

Pascal’s isolatedmix was heralded as one of the best by many, skilled in track selection and perfect key matching. No surprise to find the same great selection and techniques on this mix – an upbeat electronic journey providing a nice lift as summer comes to a close for many.

Passing By: Sub.Made, Desove, Dave Wesley, Inigo Kennedy, Inner Ocean Records

Sub.Made – Memories

Sublime Porte does not adhere to a strict release schedule, but the Turkish netlabel has consistently offered quality free lossless music for years. Istabul’s Ismail Genc (Havantepe) is responsible for most of the operations and keeps it particularly tuned to the deeper side of techno. Their latest sees Germany’s Sub.Made break out of his shell with a more emotive effort, the highlight being this collab with Rene Laue on keys. Free Download.

Various Artists – Futures Vol. 1

Canadian imprint Inner Ocean Records is making a bit of a statement with the launch of their Futures compilation. While drawing attention to their first two years in operation, they’re simultaneously signaling a shift in direction. It remains to be seen what the future holds for this humble outlet, but this free offering includes works by some of the label’s talented mainstays like Porya Hatami, Darren McClure and Fontaine, plus contributions from a handful of new faces. Free Download on Bandcamp.

Arctic Dub (Sursumcorda) – Compilation v1

Here is the perfect opportunity to dive into the discography of American producer Dave Wesley. This compilation (released on his ownSursumcorda imprint) presents some of his strongest material from recent years. Wesley’s recordings invite hard-edged instrumentation into a refined digital climate, creating pleasantly rich aesthetics. Fans of Deepchord will have plenty to relish in. Download on Bandcamp.

Inigo Kennedy – Lullaby

This may very well be the only time you see Token Records make an appearance here. The heavy hitting imprint from Belgium is usually fueling dancefloors like Tresor, where tempos are fierce and the sweat runs deep. However, this nostalgic number off Inigo Kennedy’s long-awaited full length proves even the heaviest hitters have their tender moments. Download on Beatport.

Desove – Profound Organics

Despite an influx of emerging producers flooding the dub techno market, there are still a few bringing something fresh to the table. Desove is one of them. His latest full length for Entropy stays true to its name by incorporating gritty organics into the mix. Echo Park is one of the album’s highlights; a gratifying mix of new meets old. Download on Bandcamp.

Passing by: David Douglas, Nikosf, Warmth and an epic Ghostly colab

David Douglas – Moon Observations

Atomnation, head-up by our friend Applescal is on a roll this year. You may have seen me getting excited about the upcoming Gidge album already, but until that time arises, Pascal is treating us to label stalwart David Douglas’ latest, ‘Moon Observations’. A truly immersive journey through different styles of electronica, packed full of instrumentation, emotion and beautiful melodies. The title track below, my favourite of the bunch. Available on Bandcamp.

Nikosf – Collecting The Moments

You probably know Nikosf from his releases on Dewtone (The Forgotten Pieces and Silence Speaks When The Words End), but this is the first release of his to see some action on wax. As you’d expect it’s a love affair with “tranquil soundscapes, minimalistic rhythms and warm dub undertones”. This kind of music is normally reserved for digital only, maybe CD, so it’s great to see it getting a full vinyl press. Available on Decks.de

MOSHImix22 – Warmth

Continuing the deep and dubby vibe is Warmth, with a guest mix for MOSHItaka. Featuring Doyeq and Martin Nonstatic you should know what rabbit hole this is going down. If you’re new to Warmth, check out his own Soundcloud page for some beautiful productions of his own.

Stefan Gubatz – An

Yernesto – Deep Ambition
Andrea Cichecki – Subjective
Stefan Gubatz – Aus
Martin Nonstatic – Quantum Dub
Van Bonn – Onwards II

Christopher Willits / Heathered Pearls / The Sight Below – Collider

Lastly, and with little explanation needed, is this mega-lineup of Ghostly all-stars going all-in. “Collider” is a collaborative track between Christopher Willits, Heathered Pearls, and The Sight Below made using Splice (splice.com/) to promote Michael Cina and John Klukas’ upcoming show in Minneapolis”.

I thought this was going to be a pretty dark piece given those involved, but instead it’s a refreshingly beautiful piece of music that wouldn’t be out of a place underlying an epic reflective moment on a movie Soundtrack; think Underworld’s ‘To Heal’ or some of Clint Mansell’s work, but with added #dronelife.

Passing by: Carbon Based Lifeforms, Ourson, Vermont, GWFAA, & Ametsub

Carbon Based Lifeforms – The Path

This is CBL before they were even CBL. This is spaced-out ambient music from Sweden before we even knew there were producers IN Sweden. This is music thats spinning off the back of The Orb, FSOL and Aphex Twin in the late 90’s; mixing psychedelic soundtracks, samples, synthesizers and god-damn didgeridoos. Two of the finest carving the very CBL sound we know of todayAvailable on Bandcamp.

Ourson – Light From A Closing Door

Only the long-time ASIP readers will remember the name Ourson. But after what seems like an eternity, Luke has put a neat little album of previously unreleased works up on Bandcamp. Think long-form grainy, warm ambient and you’re in the right zone. It’s just… if you get in that zone, it’s pretty hard to get back out with this kind of stuff… Available on Bandcamp.

Vermont – Vermont

Kompakt isn’t in the game of taking on too many new artists. You’ll often find their deep roster on rotation or releasing under numerous guises, but here’s a new colab between Innervisions’ Marcus Worgull and Danilo Plessow (of Motor City Drum Ensemble fame). I had no ideas what to expect with this album due to minimal knowledge of Motor City Drum Ensemble, but after several listens, this is definitely growing on me.

It’s alarmingly addictive straight-up synth-muddled ambient electronica. The tracks are simple, memorable and obviously produced by two guys exploring each others styles, yet individually, know where to take a track if they needed to; they just strapped restraints on themselves this time around. I can foresee some pretty amazing remixes coming out from this album… i’m thinking (hoping) Pantha Du Prince, The Field or even Dominik Eulberg – there’s certainly enough to play with. Available on Kompakt.

Good Weather For An Airstrike – A Home For You

I know how many fans of Hammock there are out there. And trust me, if you’re one of these then you’ll love what Tom has to offer with Good Weather For An Airstrike. He’s by no means an imitation – rather a younger prodigy of the ambient post-rock genre. ‘A Home For You’ is a beautiful new album peppered with emotion, heart-wrenching crescendos and best of all, the ultimate space to breathe and take it all in. That is until, you experience the epicness of the track ‘Tides’. Available on Bandcamp.

Ametsub – Seek Sick Sound Podcast

What starts as a jazz-oriented ambient interlude, soon progresses into the notorious glitchy world of Japan’s finest IDM master-mind, Ametsub. Never one to remain stagnant in a mix, Ametsub then goes on to present moments of dub-techno, breaks and even more complex beats. If your world of melodic bleeps isn’t quenched with this one, then try his slightly more subtle isolatedmix which he did for us back in 2012. Download and more information on Seek Sick Sound.
